MSGHN Project Guidelines

Rules and
Regulations for the Mississippi Genealogy and History Network
Realizing that those
helping with this project are volunteers, we have established a
simple set of rules and guidelines to be followed by each member
of the project.
1. Above all members
of the MSGHN shall treat other politely and with respect at all
times. No Rude or discourteous messages are allowed on our list
nor are project members permitted to exhibit inappropriate email
behaviors among themselves even by private email. We insist that
you treat each other as you would like to be treated and keep in
mind that we all are volunteers and should be treated with equal
respect and deference.
2. All County
and Project Directors shall be familiar with the Mission Statement for the
MSGHN Project. It shall be their responsibility to see that
their actions reflect that mission at all times.
3. No member of
MSGHN shall use any submitted material for financial gain nor
intentionally assist any other persons to do so.
4. County and
Project Directors
will need a basic knowledge of hypertext markup language
(HTML) and general knowledge of the File Transfer Protocol
(FTP). These are the tools that you will use to design and
update your website. We provide training to all members of MSGHN
to refine these skills and develop new skills but some
background knowledge is required.
5. All County
and Project Directors shall abide by the common Copyright laws of the United
States. A guide to follow can be found on the
Protections Under
the U. S. Copyright Laws page of this website. The links can be found on the state home page
as well. Each
County and Project Director is responsible for reading and following these
rules.
6. Realizing that
from time to time challenges may arise the governing body of
MSGHN, the Executive Council,
shall resolve all difficulties in a timely manner. All County
and Project Directors shall immediately contact a member of the Executive
Council for help with any problem that shall arise.
7. Each member is
encouraged to contact any council member for assistance when
needed. Email addresses of committee members shall be available
to all County and Project Directors and kept current.
8. Each County
and Project Director shall place the name of the MSGHN project and the
approved organizational logo on their home page to identify the
site as a member of the organization along with contact emails
and a link to the state home page for purposes of recruitment.
In order to assure creative freedom the director may place this
information anywhere on the homepage that can be easily seen,
however, a position of prominence is respectfully requested.
We're proud of you, we'd like you to be proud to be a member of
MSGHN.
9. Each County
and Project Director shall email a list of items added to their county
or project to
the appropriate committee member to be added to the state
homepage. The director may also send this to others within the
project that may have an interest in the material being added.
10. Each County
and Project Director shall help researchers in any manner they choose. Each
of us knows how many hours per week we are available to help. A
chart should be kept on your website listing anyone willing to
do look ups in resources available to them for your county.
11. Each County
and Project Director shall answer emails from researchers in a timely
manner. Questions about the county, project or volunteering should be
directed to a member of the Executive Committee. Be proud of
your county and project pages! They are your work and represent us all.
12. Each County
and Project Director shall from time to time insure that all links on their
pages are in proper working order. If you need help locating
software to help you with this task, please contact a council
member who will assist you.
13. All County and
Project
Directors shall be responsible for notifying a member of the
Executive Council if they will be unable to maintain their
site for a period of time. It is suggested that each director
make an effort to have someone cover their county in the event
circumstances cause them to take a leave of absence from the
project. An email should be sent to an Executive Council
member
stating who will be covering for you or that you have been
unable to find anyone to cover your county so that no county is
left unattended.
14. These guidelines
shall be reviewed by a member of the Executive Council annually.
Upon completion of this review the MSGHN Webmaster shall be
directed to post the date and name of the reviewing officer to
this web page, and the reviewing officer shall file a report
before the Executive Council suggesting changes and updates as
required.
With the above rules
as a guide we believe you will enjoy your hours volunteering
with MSGHN. It is our goal to provide all the assistance and
training you need to function effectively in your position as a
County Director for the project. Please feel free to contact any
Executive Committee member with comments or suggestions. We are
all volunteers and as such make every effort to be open to new
ideas and to be supportive. Your contribution to the project is
very much appreciated by all.
For more information
about the Executive Council and how we work, please see
How We do What
We Do. (an addendum to the MSGHN Guidelines.)
If you are a member
of other online genealogy and history association, please review
the MSGHN
Exclusivity Policy as well.
