Cowpen Point Landing was once a place in Adams County on an extended westerly loop on the Mississippi River called Giles Bend.
From 1932 to 1934 the Army Corps of Engineers worked to create the Giles Cutoff to eliminate the 14 mile loop of the river. This eventually led to Cowpen Point Landing being left abandoned. This point is now just a wooded, swampy area that is still in Mississippi, but is now on the west side of the Mississippi River.
