Boneyard, Mississippi

Alcorn County

(submitted by Gerald & Tammy Westmoreland)

In the early 1830's a homely cadaverous looking man by the name of William Powell settled on this site, eight mileswest of Corinth on the old stage road between Jacinto, Mississippi and LaGrange, Tennessee. The place came to be known as Boneyard on the account of the appearance of its founder.

Before the settlement was completley demolished during the Civil War, it had attained some fame as a trading point and stopping place for travelers.
