Jobes, Mississippi

In 1858, when the M & O Railroad came through this area, about four miles west of Glen, a switch stop was located near here and called Alcorn Switch. The name was later changed to Meadows, in honor of the station agent at Corinth. Still later the switch was moved a half mile south to the Danville-Corinth road crossing and called Jobes, for a family by that name who lived in the community.
An early school was held in the Antioch Church which was a log structure, and the Price Academy was built at a later date. The Anticoch and Salem Churches are two of the oldest churches in this area and many of the pioneer settlers are buried in the two cemeteries.
