Anis, located about 15 miles north of Kosciusko, was established betueen 1840 and 1850. It was named for Mrs. Anis Gibson. J.T. Short operated a horse—powered gin here at that time. In 1878 Cal Brister established a steam—powered gin and grist mill at this site.
Anis has been extinct since 1910.
