Taking its name from the county, Attalaville was once located about 2 miles southwest Sallis. It was settled by three brothers by the name of Clark. In the 1850's the place had reached its peak, being the shipping point for the large plantations in the vicinity, and boasting a male and female Academy.
Its decline came when it was bypassed by the Mobile & Ohio Railroad and became extinct with the forming of the town of Sallis.
