Glendale, Mississippi

Attala County, Mississippi

(submitted by and photos by Gerald & Tammy Westmoreland)

Located about 11 miles east of Kosciusko, Glendale owes its formation to Sam Owen, former principal of East Macedonia School, who secured the consolidation of the school districts of East Macedonia, Doty Springs, and Pansy in 1916. Much strife was brought about by this consolidation but the majority finally decided in favor of it. Mr. Owen named the new school Glendale, because it was first located in a beautiful little valley near Pleasant Ridge Primitive Baptist Church, 2 miles south of its later location. For the name he took the word Glen for the location, and Dale from the name of Lansdale, an old pioneer family in the area.

In 1931 the original building burned and it was decided to move the school to the site of Doty Springs, near the Doty Springs Church.
