Named for a local creek, Hurricane is about 4 miles SW of Kosciusko and is known to have been settled as early as 1859. It became kmown as Hurricane when a combination church and school was built in 1868. A post office was opened in 1902 by M.D. Thweatt and was called Pleasant, but the office was abolished in 1917.
