Pierce's Chapel, Mississippi in Attala County

(submitted by and photos by Gerald & Tammy Westmoreland)

A few of the early settlers who made their homes in this vicinity, about 7 miles NNE of Kosciusko in the 1840s and 1850s, were the Hudson, Hines, Adams, and Gaddis families. The place did not become thickly settled before the 1880s because Christopher H. Tebault of New Orleans, owned a huge tract of land in the area which he refused to sell until the late 1870s. When this land was sold the place became filled with small home owners and was a prosperous community.
