The Tabernacle Methodist Church was established in 1870 about 11 miles east of Kosciusko. The Tabernacle name for the community was suggested by J.S. Rone who had started a cotton gin and a sawmill here.
The community was just south of Turkey Creek and early settlers who lived and owned land along the creek were claimed by both the Carson Ridge and Tabernacle communities. The area north of the creek was more densely populated than on the south side, therefore Carson Ridge had a church and school much earlier than Tabernacle.
