Marilyn Lummus Pritchard, the daughter of Y. C. Lummus and Bessie Critz Lummus Josey, was born April 25, 1930 in the Self Creek community of Oktibbeha County, MS. At an early age the family moved to Artesia, MS in Lowndes County, MS.
Following graduation of Artesia / Mayhew School she began her employment with the Kansas City Southern Railroad, serving as telegraph operator and later as a freight agent until she retired after forty four years of service.
Marilyn met the love of her life Buddy ( Robert Lyle ) Pritchard in 1951 when both as railroad employees were stranded in a snow storm in West Point, MS. as they sought shelter in a small cafe. He was the gallant gentleman who came to her rescue providing transportation for her to her home. The couple married in 1952 and were the parents of their oldest son Robert and their twins Caryl and Daryl.
Marilyn Pritchard passed away September 17, 2017 in her home in Artesia, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Lummus, and her husband Robert Lyle Pritchard. She was survived by her sons Robert and Daryl ( Susie), her daughter Caryl; her grandsons Bradshaw Pritchard, Austin Barrett, Brad Cook, and Justin Pritchard; her great granddaughter Payslie Barrett; sisters Ada Pierce and Eva Vondran; step sister Sybil Josey Lummus; and nieces Bitty Foster Lindsey and Claudia Bannister.
